2 San Jose Sharks Prospects Who Could Get Called Up This Season

As the season gets underway, players will begin to suffer injuries as they sacrifice their bodies for the sake of their team, not to mention the ever-present concern of a positive Covid diagnosis. Eventually, there will be players who will need to miss games, and others will need to be called in to replace them in the lineup. Here are two such prospects who could see some playing time on the San Jose Sharks this season.

Scott Reedy

The Sharks have really pillaged their AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda, of top talent this season, and yet players continue to step up and fill those roles. Case and point: Scott Reedy. A 4th-round pick from 2017, Reedy went the college hockey route and wrapped it up by leading the University of Minnesota in scoring with a point-per-game campaign last season. The Sharks were quick to sign him to an ELC and Reedy jumped into the AHL at the tail end of the Barracuda's season, and while he played well (8 points in 17 games) it took him a bit to find his game in the pro hockey circuit. He seems to have found it now, he's currently second on the Barracuda in scoring with 4 goals and 7 points in 8 games. His status as a right-shot centre makes him a valuable commodity for the Sharks if they need to bolster their bottom 6 down the middle, and his play suggests he could be ready to fill that role at any time.

Joachim Blichfeld

This player has already had a pair of looks at the NHL with San Jose, including last season when he scored his first NHL goal against the Minnesota Wild. While there were high hopes for Blichfeld coming into this season, he was passed over for a roster spot to start the year. Since that setback, Blichfeld has done everything in his power to earn himself another shot. He has a goal and 5 points in 7 AHL games with the Barracuda and helped Denmark qualify for the 2022 Olympics with 2 goals and 3 points in 3 qualifying games. A former 7th-round pick from 2016, Blichfeld is no stranger to having to work his way into the NHL, and he's proving he's got the dedication and work ethic to make it happen. The Sharks have to be ecstatic with all the young talent they have in their system, and Blichfeld is sitting near the top of that pile.
