3 Players on the Bubble to Make Team USA's Olympic Roster
The NHL could be returning to the Olympics in 2022 and once this is confirmed in the coming weeks, each country will have to submit their roster to the IIHF. Team USA is going to have a strong team loaded with talent and some very good players could be on the outside looking in.
Let's take a look at a few players who are on the bubble to make the United States Olympic Men's Hockey Team:
Troy Terry: The Anaheim Ducks forward is one of the hottest players in the NHL right now as his point streak continues on. Terry is certainly in the early voting for the Hart trophy as his 22 points in 17 games has people scratching their heads. At $1.45 million he's certainly the best bargain in the league right now. Terry did not make the long list for Team USA, however does have the ability to be added according to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff who had this to say:
He’s certainly on the radar, but I can tell you with absolute fact that Troy Terry was not on the team USA long list that was submitted back in October, and it’s probably not a shock. What he’s done now as of November 18th… he’s played himself onto the radar and has asked the appropriate question of ‘does he belong in the conversation? Troy Terry can be added and I think the big question from Team USA circles is can he sustain this? Can he keep it going? Because if three weeks turns into six-months and you’re talking late December, Christmas time, and Troy Terry is still right there in terms of being one of the elite producers in the league, then he’s going to be a tough guy to say no to.
Chris Kreider: The New York Rangers forward is a big versatile winger who can play both sides. Kreider is someone who can play a checking role for Team USA and considering some of the offensive talent it will be smart to have a solid shut-down line. He's off to a terrific start for the Rangers and is someone who also like Terry was not on the initial long list but is making noise.
Jack Campbell: The Toronto Maple Leafs netminder is in tough to make the team, but his numbers don't lie. "Soup" has been historically good since taking over the #1 job in Toronto last season and is currently leading the league in a number of goaltending categories. With some big names in front of him, Campbell will need to continue his hot start in 2021-22 to be considered. A long shot surely, but don't be surprised if Soup is named as the third goalie behind John Gibson and Connor Hellebuyck. Hard to say no to a goalie who is 27-6-3 in the past two seasons who has a 1.63 GAA and a .944 save % in 2021-22.
