3 Potential Trade Destinations for Maple Leafs Travis Dermott

The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly open for business as general manager Kyle Dubas has made it known across the league the team has defensemen available. This includes Travis Dermott.

Dermott is out tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning as he blocked a shot on Tuesday against the Vegas Golden Knights and still is a bit banged up. Dermott has one assist in nine games but that doesn't tell the whole story. He struggled in the first five games this season and saw his ice-time decline, but over the past three games was getting top-four minutes and was on pace to play a season-high on Tuesday before the injury.

3 Teams Who May Be Interested in Trading for Dermott

Detroit Red Wings: The Wings and Dermott have been linked all the way back to his draft year and it continues this season with the latest trade buzz. The Wings would like to add some more young defensemen and at 24, soon-to-be 25, Dermott fits the bill. His contract is affordable at $1.6 million this season and next and this is certainly one of the favorite teams to make a deal with the Maple Leafs. Likely a prospect and pick come back the other way, and the Red Wings have an abundance of picks at the upcoming draft to pull from including three fourth-rounders.

St Louis Blues: The Blues are looking for some more depth for the left-side and Dermott has the ability to play both sides, which makes him appealing. One name to watch here is Robert Bortuzzo of the Blues, who is a pending free agent and would give the Leafs a bit more sandpaper than Dermott can provide.

Los Angeles Kings: The Kings are currently discussing multiple trade options for their back end after the injury bug has taken a huge chomp out of them early on this season. Dermott is someone who could slide into the top-four for the Kings and then perhaps could provide them with the perfect partner to play with his close buddy, Sean Walker next season when Walker returns from major knee surgery. The Leafs and Kings have a long history of moves and this one could be added as the latest.
