3 Prime Defenseman Candidates to be Traded in 2021-22

The rental market for this season is a long list and there will be several teams who are extremely active as we approach the trade deadline in 2022. There will be a number of players available for rent, including some talented defensemen, let's take a look at 3.

3 Defensemen Who Should Expect to be Moved

Colin Miller: The Buffalo Sabres are still trying to rebuild, even after a surprising start to the season. Miller is one of the best offensive defensemen who does not have a contract for next season. He comes with a booming shot and the ability to make an outlet pass and jump up into the rush. So far in 18 games in 2021-22, Miller has recorded 11 points. He's making $3.87 million this season and his next contract will likely start with a 5.

Chris Wideman: The Montreal Canadiens aren't expected to make any major changes this season but they will be selling off some assets. Wideman is the perfect candidate for them to get moved as he's making only $750,000 and has been a productive player this season in Montreal, recording eight points in 15 games. Wideman has the ability to provide depth for a power play on a contending team and could be the perfect compliment to a bottom-pair. Expect to see Wideman moved by the Canadiens this season.

Mark Giordano: There's apparently already a bidding war going on for Giordano's services and from all accounts the Kraken are willing to move their first captain. It would be something for an expansion team to move their captain before their first season is even over but that's what happens when you give the 'C' to a veteran on an expiring deal. The Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers are expected to battle it out for 'Gio' and look for several other teams to get involved including the New York Islanders and New York Rangers. It's going to be hello-goodbye for Giordano in Seattle.
