Anaheim Ducks: 2 Biggest Surprises Of The Season So Far
The majority of NHL teams have already played 20 games this season, so we are starting to get a better understanding of what to expect from them moving forward. There have been certain players who have been big surprises thus far and it feels fair to shine a light on them. In this series, we will be looking at two from each team who certainly can be classified as that.
In this opening piece, we will be focusing on the Anaheim Ducks. The team as a whole has surprised a ton of people, as they currently have an 11-8-3 record and are third in Pacific Division. After an off-season of doing essentially nothing, they are currently a playoff team. That of course could change as the season continues, but these two players warrant a lot of praise for their contributions.
Troy Terry: In 48 games last season, Troy Terry had seven goals and 20 points. In just 21 games this campaign, he already passed those totals, as he has 13 goals and 23 points. The 24-year-old forward is having himself a monstrous breakout campaign and should now be viewed as one of Anaheim's most important forwards from here. If he keeps producing like this, he will have to be considered for Team USA at this winter's Olympics.
Ryan Getzlaf: So much for Ryan Getzlaf being washed up, huh? After a 17-point campaign in 48 games last season, fans were pretty harsh toward the 36-year-old center. Yet, he certainly is silencing his critics right now, as he has a goal and 19 assists in 22 games this season already. It will be intriguing to see if he's capable of maintaining this rate as the season progresses.
Honorable Mention: After initially being waived by the Ducks at the beginning of the season, Sonny Milano has been fantastic since returning. In 17 games, he has five goals and 13 points. The 25-year-old former first-round pick is certainly making a real case for himself to remain at the NHL level from here.
Our next article for the series will focus on the Calgary Flames.
