Buffalo Sabres and New York Islanders Complete a Trade
The Buffalo Sabres have been busy on Thursday as they have now completed their second trade. While the first one was a blockbuster, this deal was not near as sexy but was very important financially.
The Sabres acquired the contract of Johnny Boychuk from the New York Islanders, allowing the team to stay above the cap floor moving forward, after dealing disgruntled captain Jack Eichel and his $10 million salary to the Vegas Golden Knights earlier in the day.
#Isles Transaction: The New York Islanders have traded the rights to Johnny Boychuk to the Buffalo Sabres for future considerations.

Also worth noting that Buffalo gets a $6,000,000 cap hit for less than $500,000 in actual salary.

Boychuk's salary this season is $1,250,000. However, 60% of that is insured (players aged 35+ are capped at 60%), meaning they're on the hook for only $500,000 prorated to today. https://t.co/q5Fbqgb9bP
The future considerations are likely a draft pick of some sort to be worked out at a later date. The Sabres have been a surprise so far this season and will be adding Alex Tuch to their lineup in the coming weeks.
While Eichel may be gone, the show goes on in Buffalo. Now they are eligible to play their next game, so that's certainly a step in the right direction for the Sabres on what's been a franchise altering day.
