Canadiens' Cole Caufield Opens Up About Struggles This Season

Sometimes a reality check is all you need to hit the reset button and sometimes it's just a two week stint in the American Hockey League. Cole Caufield of the Montreal Canadiens is very happy and grateful for his demotion and used the experience as a learning opportunity about himself and his game.

Caufield recently spoke to the media and had this to say:

It was all about just going down there, kinda refreshing my mind, get my game back, and getting my confidence back. I feel as though it was really good for me to go down there and find myself as a player and relax and get out of the noise a little bit. It felt like the first time again. I had a lot of energy those first couple games, and I’m just going to look forward to keeping that going. For me, personally, I like where my game's at right now. I'm just gonna keep trying to get better

Caufield was a machine down in the AHL, scoring twice and looking like his 'old self'. He ended up playing in six games and recorded five points.

He has yet to score with the Canadiens and has recorded one assist in 12 games. The Canadiens as a bunch are not living up to expectations after a great showing in 2020-21.

In 22 career NHL games, Caufield has scored four times and recorded two assists. Look for the former first-round pick to get back on track as we approach the end of the calendar year.
