Chicago Blackhawks Fire Head Coach And Two Assistants

The Chicago Blackhawks are making big changes behind the bench. Head coach Jeremy Colliton has been fired, as well as assistant coaches Tomas Mitell and Sheldon Brookbank. Derek King will be taking over as interim head coach.

This is not surprising at all. The Blackhawks are not only off to a 1-9-2 start, but also have been blown out on numerous occasions. In Colliton's last game as head coach of the Blackhawks, they fell to the Winnipeg Jets by a final score of 5-1.

The Blackhawks added players like Seth Jones, Marc-Andre Fleury and Tyler Johnson this offseason, so they were expected to be more competitive. However, they've been the exact opposite of that and now could finish the season at the bottom of the NHL standings.

Colliton's record with the Blackhawks ends at 87-92-26. The Blackhawks made the postseason once under his leadership and that was during the 2019-20 season. However, they quickly would fall to the Vegas Golden Knights in the first round. They did, however, shockingly defeat the Edmonton Oilers in the play-in round.

Ultimately, this is a completely understandable move by the Blackhawks. They needed a major change and now they will try to get back on track with King behind the bench.
