Colorado Avalanche Claim Forward Off Waivers

The Colorado Avalanche have claimed forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel off waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers.

When Aube-Kubel was first placed on waivers, it seemed very possible that he would be claimed. Frank Seravalli also noted that there were other teams interested in the 25-year-old winger.

Aube-Kubel didn't have the best of starts with the Flyers this season and ultimately, this would make him expendable to them. In seven games, he had an assist and a -3 rating. He also was a healthy scratch on a few occasions.

However, Aube-Kubel will now give the Avalanche more depth. He plays a very heavy game and is known for tenacious nature. This is what honestly makes him a good add for a team who is looking to have a deep playoff run. He also deserves recognition for the fact that he can be utilized on the penalty kill, too. Thus, this could be a quality addition for the Avalanche.

During the 2019-20 season, Aube-Kubel also was a solid contributor, too. In 36 games, he had seven goals and 15 points. Yet, he took a step back last season. In 50 games, he scored three goals and recorded 12 points. One has to wonder if he can once again tap into that kind of offense with a strong team like Colorado.

He carries a $1.075 AAV and will be in need of a new contract next summer. If he puts together a nice campaign with the Avalanche from here, they surely will send him a qualifying offer.
