Due to the fact that Murray's absence will be for an indefinite amount of time, it's possible that this is a pretty serious injury. It would not be surprising to see the Avalanche move him to LTIR because of this. This, in turn, would give them $2 million of cap space and more room to make a trade if they wanted to.
Colorado signed Murray during the offseason to a one-year contract. In 48 games last season with the New Jersey Devils, he recorded 14 assists. He hasn't produced at the same rate this season with the Avalanche, though, as he has four assists in 17 games thus far. Here's to hoping he's able to add on to these totals soon, but we'll have to wait and see on that front.
This is a tough blow for Murray, as the 28-year-old defenseman has dealt with injury trouble for multiple seasons now.
Murray isn't necessarily a star, but he is a top-six defenseman who will be missed in Colorado's lineup. It will be interesting to see who they end up replacing him with while he recovers. Perhaps youngster Justin Barron will get some time with the NHL squad.
