Maple Leafs Expected to Trade These 2 Players
The Toronto Maple Leafs are actively talking trades with other teams as general manager Kyle Dubas has been working the phones pretty hard to start the season. While the team has discussed a deal around one of their extra defensemen, the Leafs also have a forward who could be getting moved.
2 Maple Leafs Expected to be Dealt
Travis Dermott: Dermott along with Justin Holl have had their names all over trade rumors since the beginning of the season and that hasn't slowed down for Dermott at all. Holl appears to have his game back on track and is getting regular minutes with Jake Muzzin on Toronto's second pair, meanwhile Dermott has gone from playing alongside Morgan Rielly at times, to mostly being the seventh defenseman these past few weeks.
Dermott's signed for next season at a reasonable $1.5 million and two teams who have contacted Toronto include the New York Islanders and Detroit Red Wings. So far in 16 games the soon-to-be 25-year-old hasn't scored a goal and has only one assist. While 17 points is his career high, the expectation was for Dermott to become more of an offensive threat than he is displaying. Look for the Maple Leafs to move on from their former second-round pick this season.
Ilya Mikheyev: The Russian speedster went down with injury early on this season after a summer which saw him request a trade and have that request denied by the Maple Leafs. Turns out they could be going down that path after all, as he's expected back in the lineup soon, and right now there's no room. He's a pending unrestricted free agent and is making $1.64 on the cap. In 93 career games Mikheyev has recorded 40 points.
'SouperMan' is known for his work ethic and elite speed, but Mikheyev has troubles putting the puck in the net and finishing plays. He's always getting breakaways and grade A chances but can't seem to consistently find the back of the net. Look for Toronto to sell off their own rental as Mikheyev, along with Dermott, is likely getting traded in the coming weeks.
