Maple Leafs Veteran Laughs Off Media Concerns Over Matthews' Production
Playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs is no easy task, as many players throughout the years will tell you. On Wednesday morning veteran forward Jason Spezza met with the media and had to chuckle to himself about being asked about Auston Matthews not scoring enough.
Matthews has recorded seven goals and seven assists in 14 games so far this season. After a slow start to the season once his wrist rehab was over, the 24-year-old forward has turned it on of late, looking like his old self.
The future Olympian is always among the league leaders in five on five goals, however this season he's scored only three goals in 14 games at even strength. This has caught the attention of the 100 media members down at Scotiabank arena, and Spezza had a great response to the question.
“Auston scoring is at the bottom of our list of worries… He’s a guy that’s gonna score and is gonna score in bunches.”
