Mystery Team Revealed Who Made Trade Offer for Jack Eichel
While Jack Eichel is now a Vegas Golden Knight, it turns out it wasn't only the Calgary Flames and Vegas who were making final trade offers. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, there was a third team involved.
The Carolina Hurricanes made a last ditch effort to land Eichel as the team was apparently open to making a huge splash. After their hot start this season, can you really blame them to go looking for the final piece to the puzzle?
For all the teams that didn’t end up getting Eichel - Calgary, Anaheim, Carolina, etc - what now? It feels like you don’t go from trying to trade for Eichel to doing absolutely nothing. https://t.co/HwMuSmkO72

Told that there were 3 teams in there to varying degrees near the end on Eichel: Vegas of course, Calgary, and at No. 3, Carolina. My sense is the 'Canes weren't close but certainly stayed in those talks to make sure...

As far as what would have went to Buffalo, if we compare the return from Vegas and consider the dollar in and dollar out that was needed, it's likely the Hurricanes offer included the two draft picks, along with prospect Ryan Suzuki, and one of forward Teuvo Teravainen or Vincent Trocheck.
Eichel now heads to Vegas were he will undergo his back surgery and will miss the next four months. He's expected to be ready for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
As for Carolina, they are 9-0-0 on the season and maybe are better suited to keep their roster in tact. Sometimes the best moves you make are the ones you don't.
