Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar has announced that forward Nathan MacKinnon will be out for the next three weeks with a lower-body injury.

This is horrible timing for the Avalanche. Although many view them as true contenders, they are off to a very rough 4-5-1 start. With MacKinnon now going to be out of action for multiple weeks, this is not going to help them at all with trying to regroup.
Individually, MacKinnon is having another strong season thus far. He missed a few games to begin the campaign, but once he returned, he continued to be an offensive threat. In eight games so far, he has a goal and 10 points. Yes, the one goal is low, but he's still over a point-per-game because of his elite passing ability.
The Avalanche just called up Alex Newhook, so this is a good chance for him to showcase what he's capable of at the NHL level. Furthermore, the Avalanche are at least getting star defenseman Cale Makar back, too. Still, this is such a hard blow for the Avalanche.
