Sounds like the timeline will be several months. He’s had multiple issues with it. Tough break for a guy who was trying to make his case for being a regular in NJ.
Thompson was just called up by the Devils earlier this month and played two games with the NHL team. In them, he failed to get on the scoresheet. He also suited up in seven games last season after finishing his collegiate career at Providence College. In those contests, he recorded one assist.
Thompson started this season with the Utica Comets and played noticeably well. In seven games, he scored four goals and registered seven points. Thus, it seemed as though that the 22-year-old forward was making his case to become a full-time NHLer. Now, this injury is a significant setback for him to achieve this.
It's hard not to feel bad for the young forward. Once he is fully healthy again, here's to hoping that he is able to become a mainstay in New Jersey's lineup.
