Philadelphia Flyers Key Defenseman Out Week-To-Week

According to Philadelphia Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault, Ryan Ellis re-injured himself against the Dallas Stars and is considered week-to-week.

Ellis played for the Flyers on Saturday night for the first time since October 20th against the Boston Bruins. Yet, now the Flyers will be without the 30-year-old defenseman again and it's a big loss.

In his small sample size with the Flyers thus far, Ellis has done very well. In four games, he has a goal and recorded five points. This is exactly why Philadelphia acquired him in the first place, but his ongoing injury trouble is restricting him from building on his hot start.

Without Ellis, the Flyers have been able to remain competitive, though. At this time, they sport a 7-4-2 record and are fifth in the Metropolitan Division. However, one has to wonder how much better off they would have been had the veteran defenseman been able to stay healthy all year. Keep in mind, they are also only four points ahead of the New York Islanders who are the bottom of the division.

Here's to hoping Ellis' setback doesn't keep him out too long, but that week-to-week status is certainly concerning.
