Philadelphia Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault told reporters on Thursday that defenseman Ryan Ellis will be out for the next four-to-six weeks. With that, he added that Ellis does not require surgery.

Ellis re-injured himself last Saturday when the Flyers played the Dallas Stars. It was his first game back with the team in almost a month, so this is a major setback for the 30-year-old defenseman. It was previously announced by Vigneault that Ellis was week-to-week, but now we have a more definitive timeline.
For the small amount of time that Ellis has played with Philadelphia, he's looked quite good. In four games, he has a goal and five points. He even had an assist against the Stars before he was injured, too. Therefore, him being absent from the lineup again is a tough pill to swallow.
The Flyers are still in a pretty good position in the standings, though. They currently have an 8-4-2 record and are fourth in the Metropolitan Division. However, the bottom half of the division isn't too far behind, so a prolonged losing streak would put them in a tough place.
Nonetheless, this is very hard news for the Flyers, as Ellis is one of their top defenseman.
