Rumor: Montreal Canadiens Trading for Specific Need

The Montreal Canadiens are likely going to give up on trying to make the playoffs this season but don't expect general manager Marc Bergevin to just sit on his hands. Word is he's considering making moves for next season and beyond.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet shared via his 32 Thoughts blog that the Canadiens are likely considering adding a puck-moving defenseman. The team certainly has some holes to fill on their blue line and with the young talent on their NHL and AHL rosters, the Canadiens certainly have the assets to land a game-changing defenseman.

Some names who may be available include Samuel Girard of the Colorado Avalanche, Shayne Gostisbehere of the Arizona Coyotes and Tyler Myers of the Vancouver Canucks.

The Canadiens currently sit at 4-12-2 on the season, for a total of 10 points. Montreal is seventh out of eight in their division and unless go on a crazy hot streak, look like they will be a lottery team. Pretty crazy downfall after landing in the Stanley Cup Final last season against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Montreal has dealt with a ton of injuries this season and while they would never name it as the excuse for the losses, it's hard to say argue it's not. Let's hope they can get back healthy and perhaps once Carey Price gets back between the pipes the team can instill their confidence and make a run in the second half.
