Rumor: Patrick Roy to the Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens now have a vacant general manager position and are looking for someone credible who speaks French and can lead the team back to the promised land. Insert Patrick Roy, and the rumors are already flying.

Adding Roy as GM would be a reasonable attempt at breaking the internet in Quebec. It surely would be a polarizing move that would create quite the buzz throughout the league.

Roy's name has been linked, so has Roberto Luongo's, who has some diverse experience managing with Hockey Canada and with the Florida Panthers in goaltender development.

Roy who last worked in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche left the club over differences with Joe Sakic. Word is he's not a huge fan of analytics and it would be curious to see how Roy works with newly hired Jeff Gorton.

For now, the Canadiens continue their search, which has included a meeting or two with Roy. The team is considering him as a candidate for their vacant GM position and it's expected to take roughly seven-to-ten days for the team to close up the hiring process.
