Toronto Maple Leafs Defenseman Responds To Trade Rumors

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Travis Dermott has been a big name in the rumor mill lately. When asked about it by reporters, the 24-year-old defenseman had this to say: "I'm in the blue and white right now so that's where my heart is."

It's hard to find anything negative with Dermott's response, as it shows that his lone focus right now is to help the Maple Leafs succeed. In fact, one could even say it was the perfect answer to the question. It's never easy for a player to be linked to trade rumors, but his approach to it certainly is respectable.

With Rasmus Sandin and Timothy Liljegren looking ready for full-time NHL roles, it's been noted that the Leafs are listening to offers for both Dermott and Holl. It is entirely understandable from a financial standpoint as well. Dermott is making $1.5 million for the next two seasons, while Holl carries a $2 million cap hit for two seasons as well. With the team just signing Morgan Rielly to an extension, they do not have much cap space for next offseason and need it to ensure that Jack Campbell sticks around.

Yet, like Dermott stated, he is still a Leaf right now and that's what is most important. In 10 games this season so far, he has one assist.
