The Toronto Maple Leafs take on the San Jose Sharks on Friday night and will be doing so without right-winger Ondrej Kase. He's been managing through a number of injuries and the team feels it's best to play on the side of caution.

Projected lineup in San Jose:
Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Ritchie-Kampf-Simmonds
Engvall-Semyonov-Spezza
Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Sandin-Liljegren
Woll starts in goal
So far in his first season in Toronto, Kase has been great, playing alongside best friend David Kampf on the Maple Leafs third line. The 26-year-old who signed a one-year deal for $1.25 million has impressed with his kamikaze style of play. He's also chipped in on offense, recording eight points in 21 games.
The Maple Leafs have been one of the hottest teams in the NHL of late, and are currently on their west coast road trip which included a big 6-2 win against the Los Angeles Kings earlier this week.
For example, which teams so far have relied the most on defencemen to take the shots at 5v5?

The Leafs are in line with where they were last season - that is, their defencemen shoot less than any other team. https://t.co/3Bp0a9WE2c pic.twitter.com/R8bFhwmba9
Kase isn't expected to be out long, with expectation he could play on the weekend when the Leafs face off against the Anaheim Ducks. For now, Wayne Simmonds moves up the lineup and gets a look at some third-line minutes.
