Trade Rumor: Carolina Hurricanes Interested In Dallas Stars' Defenseman
The Carolina Hurricanes are looking to strengthen up their already stellar defensive core. According to Jeff Marek, they recently called the Dallas Stars and expressed interest in trading for defenseman John Klingberg. The Stars, however, aren't interested in moving the 29-year-old because they are still hoping to make the playoffs.
Although a Klingberg trade is out of the question right now, this is something that fans should remember when we get closer to the trade deadline. He has one year left on his deal and will be an unrestricted free agent over the summer if not extended. At this time, the Stars are sixth in the Central Division, but also have a 10-7-2 record. Thus, it makes sense that they aren't in any rush to become sellers.
If the Stars end up finding themselves way out of the playoff picture as the season progresses, the Hurricanes will surely be calling about Klingberg again. If not him, it's apparent that they are in the hunt for a top-of-the-line defenseman and could get another one by season's end.
