Trade Rumor: Edmonton Oilers To Add Veteran Defenseman
The Edmonton Oilers are now viewed as a strong potential destination for Montreal Canadiens defenseman Ben Chiarot, according to Elliotte Friedman.
Friedman on TJMS talking possible destinations for Ben Chiarot: "The team that really sticks out to me that should probably be feeling very good about itself thinking about what it could do is a team like Edmonton".

With the Canadiens currently sporting a 4-13-2, it is rather apparent that they are destined to be sellers as we inch closer to the trade deadline. Chiarot is a prime rental candidate, as he has an expiring deal and is the kind of veteran defenseman contenders love to have.
In 19 games this season, Chiarot has four goals and an assist. With that, he also has a -6 rating, but that is understandable given Montreal's struggles this season. It wouldn't hurt for Edmonton to add a hard-hitting defensive defenseman like Chiarot for the postseason. Furthermore, he's also a left-handed shot and would be an upgrade over Slater Koekkoek for the bottom pair.
We will have to wait and see if the Oilers end up going down this avenue, but in theory, it surely looks like Chiarot would be a good fit for them come playoff time.
