Trade Rumor: Toronto Maple Leafs Shopping Two Defensemen
According to Nick Kypreos, the Toronto Maple Leafs are letting teams know that both Travis Dermott and Justin Holl are available for the taking.
This isn't the most surprising of news, as the Leafs have two young defensemen in Rasmus Sandin and Timothy Liljegren who are ready to play at the NHL level full-time. Furthermore, Holl has been a healthy scratch after a disastrous start this season. In seven games, he has no points and a -7 rating.Besides Travis Dermott, hearing that @leafs have also made it clear to @NHL clubs Justin Holl is available in trade discussions. Let look's at their contracts. Dermott just signed a two-year extension this off-season that has an AAV of $1.5 million. Holl, on the other hand, has a $2 million cap hit for the next two seasons. Although he has a 10-team no trade list, the Maple Leafs still do have pretty of leg room to make a deal done.
Trading both of these players would also open more cap space for the Leafs heading into the off-season. This certainly would benefit them, as they need to sign Jack Campbell to a new contract.
We will have to wait and see what happens on this front, but right now, it's clear that the Leafs are open for business.
