Troy Brouwer Announces Retirement

Longtime NHL forward Troy Brouwer has officially announced his retirement.

This really isn't the most surprising of developments, as Brouwer hasn't played in an NHL game since the 2019-20 season with the St. Louis Blues. Still, though, he warrants praise for a very impressive career as a grinder.

Brouwer began his journey in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks. Drafted 214th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, he was certainly viewed as a project. Not too many late round picks obtain a permanent spot in the NHL, but Brouwer managed to do so during the 2008-09 season. The following year, he also won a Stanley Cup.

Brouwer would later play for the Washington Capitals, Blues, Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers. Over his career, he had three 20 + goal seasons and three seasons with 40 or more points. With that, he also was known for his very solid defensive ability and solid work ethic.

In 851 career games over 14 seasons, Brouwer had 182 goals, 181 assists and 363 points.

Congrats on a great career, Troy!
