Video: Brad Richardson Scores First Goal At UBS Arena
After starting the 2021-22 season with 13 straight road games, the New York Islanders finally played their first contest at the new UBS Arena. However, Calgary Flames forward Brad Richardson would end up scoring the first ever goal in it after a costly turnover by Matt Martin.
When looking at all the star talent that both the Islanders and Flames have, it's fair to state that not many fans would have predicted Richardson to break the ice for the new building. That's especially the case with how it happened. Yet, Richardson is a name to remember for hockey trivia night now.
In nine games this season, Richardson now has two goals. The Flames signed the 36-year-old forward to a one-year, $800,000 contract over the summer. Thus far, he's handled his role well with the team and it will be fun to see how much else he contributes by season's end.
The Flames would end up defeating the Islanders by a 5-2 final score. With it, the Islanders are continuing to struggle and now sport a 5-7-2 record.
