Video: Kaapo Kakko Steals the Puck, Scores a Gorgeous Goal

Last night's spirited affair between the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils was a back-and-forth contest that went down to the wire, literally. The teams exchanged leads all game long, culminating in an exciting overtime period and a 7-round shootout that eventually saw Chris Kreider score the winning goal for the Rangers.

The highlight of the game, however, was a play made by the youngster Kaapo Kakko in the 3rd period to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead down the stretch.

As Ryan Graves carried the puck out of his own end and through the neutral zone, Kakko executed a well-timed stick check to knock the puck free. He then muscled his way through Graves, throwing him to the ice, passed off to Ryan Strome who quickly passed it right back, and then finished the play off with a beautiful move in-tight to stuff the puck past Mackenzie Blackwood.

This was a pretty stellar sequence for a guy who came into the game without a goal in his first 10. Kakko added an assist last night as well, bringing him to 2 points in 11 games on the year. The Rangers want to see the young Finn start producing more consistently, and this play should give him some confidence in his scoring abilities going forward. What a goal!
