Video: Lightning's Mikhail Sergachev Checks Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner In The Head
In Thursday night's game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs, Mikhail Sergachev hit Mitch Marner in the head. On the play, Sergachev only received a two-minute minor for an illegal check to the head.
At the time of the hit, Marner had lost control of puck after being hooked by defenseman Viktor Hedman. Understandably, Hedman received a penalty for his hook as well and the Leafs ended up with a 5-on-3.
It's never good to see hits to the head. When focusing on Sergachev's, it looked intentional and quite easily could have been avoided. After the hook, Marner was also in a more vulnerable position.
It's always hard to predict what NHL Player Safety will do on questionable plays such as these. They aren't necessarily known for their consistency. Thus, we'd love to hear your opinions on it. Do you feel that Sergachev's hit warrants a fine or suspension? Let us know in the comments!
