Video: P.K. Subban Throws Big Hit On Blake Lizzote, Brendan Lemieux Hits Him Right Back
Things got chippy between the New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings Friday night. When Blake Lizotte carried the puck into the offensive zone, P.K. Subban threw a big, but also clean hit on him. This led Brendan Lemieux to stand up for his teammate and immediately hit Subban while the latter did not have the puck. On the play, Lemieux justifiably received a two-minute penalty for interference.
Although Subban has thrown three slew foots since the preseason, this specific play was not a bad one from the 32-year-old defenseman. It was refreshing to see him actually take the body this time. Although big hits certainly can lead to scuffles, Lemieux's decision making warranted a penalty for sure.
It would have been better to see Lemieux and Subban drop the gloves in response to the play instead. It would have been an interesting bout to watch, as both players have a good amount of experiencing fighting.
The Kings and Devils play again on January 23rd. Perhaps these two will settle the score then. We'd surely love to see it!
