Video: Tuukka Rask Getting Ready for a Comeback

It appears Tuukka Rask is ready to return to the crease. The former Boston Bruins netminder has been ramping up his training these past few weeks and all signs are pointing to him trying to get back on the ice for game action.

We just don't know whether or not that's going to be an NHL game or if in fact Rask is readying himself for the Olympics next year. Rask is coming off hip surgery

The only issue with an NHL comeback for Rask is how he's only considering playing for the Bruins. Currently the Bruins have Linus Ullmark, who is signed long-term and Boston has Jeremy Swayman, a 22-year-old who has shown in his five games this season he's capable of performing at the highest level. Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy had this to say about Rask skating at the club's facility:

I was told originally that the timeline for him to return to play -- wherever that is, whether it's Boston or somewhere else -- would be January to February. I guess the best I can tell you is he's on target for that. He's here in the mornings working with some of our trainers, using the facility, and then he leaves. Typically there's a crossover when we come in. But we've afforded him that and I think it's worked out well. Tuukka's just coming in, being a good professional, getting his work done and I think it's worked out fine for him to allow him to do that.

There's zero chance Rask comes back to any other club, so we're all curious to see how this all plays out. Rask has appeared in 560 career NHL games and last season went 15-5-2, posting a 2.27 GAA and a .913 save %.

What's likely taken place is Rask getting himself into game shape for an Olympic showcase. There's a ton of Finnish talent between the pipes, so he's certainly going to be hard pressed to be named the starter. It's expected he does get named to Team Finland in some capacity. For the Bruins, it doesn't appear there's a fit anymore in Bean Town, but that could change quickly so we'll keep an eye on things as we get closer to Rask being ready for game action.
