3 Left-Handed Defensemen The Oilers Should Pursue

We recently reported that the Edmonton Oilers are looking to add a left-handed defenseman. That isn't very surprising, as they are dealing with multiple injuries on the left side. As the season continues, it would be shocking if they do not add somebody new to their group. Here are three options who should stand out to them.

Ben Chiarot: Ben Chiarot should be a primary target for the Oilers. He's a big left-handed defenseman who also plays a very heavy game. With the Montreal Canadiens near the bottom of the NHL standings and the 30-year-old having an expiring contract, there's no question that they will be shopping him. In 29 games this season, he has five goals and an assist. He also has two 20-point campaigns on his resume, so he is capable of chipping in well offensively. With Edmonton, he'd have far more help to get back to his previous offensive totals.

Robert Hagg: Robert Hagg could be a solid addition for the team's bottom-pair. Like Chiarot, he isn't afraid to throw hits, but also would cost the Oilers significantly less. Due to the fact that they are looking to make multiple additions by the trade deadline, Hagg could be an interesting consolation prize. He would add more depth to the back end and has also had some good seasons in the league. In 24 games this campaign, he has a goal and five points with the Buffalo Sabres.

Travis Dermott: Travis Dermott has been in the rumor mill and he could be an appealing option for the Oilers. The 24-year-old can play both sides and has a very affordable $1.5 million cap hit until the end of the 2022-23 season. He doesn't play as hard of a game as the two defensemen above, but still would be a nice add for Edmonton. In 18 games this season, he has a goal and an assist.
