3 Third-Line Centers The Oilers Should Pursue
The Edmonton Oilers are looking to make multiple upgrades to their roster. One spot in their lineup that's been specified is the third-line center position. This isn't surprising at all, as the nobody on Edmonton has been able to cement themselves in the role. Derek Ryan was supposed to be their guy this season, but he only has a goal in 23 games. Ryan McLeod also only has three goals in 18 contests, too. With all of this, Edmonton will be aggressive looking for a new 3C and they do have some interesting options.
Dylan Strome: The Oilers should be pursuing Dylan Strome. The 24-year-old already has previous experience playing with Connor McDavid, as the two were teammates on the Erie Otters. It's been a hard year for Strome, however, as the Chicago Blackhawks have scratched him on numerous occasions. In 17 games, he has two goals and five points. However, he had 38 points in 58 games two seasons ago, so there's no question that he has the potential to bounce back.
Chris Tierney: Chris Tierney could be an interesting rental option for the Oilers. He has had a bit of a slow start this season, as he has five goals and seven points in 25 games. Yet, during the 2019-20 season, he had 11 goals and 37 points in 71 games. In the campaign before, he also recorded 48 points in 81 games, so he has shown very solid offense in the past. Given his struggles, his trade value is low, so perhaps Edmonton could take a chance on the 27-year-old. He does have an expiring contract, so it wouldn't come with much risk, either.
Vladislav Namestnikov: Vladislav Namestnikov would be a very nice addition to Edmonton's third line. He's off to an excellent start this season with the Detroit Red Wings, as he has nine goals and 15 points in 28 games. Like Tierney, he would be a rental, but he could be a great short-term fix for them. His $2 million cap hit is very easy to work around, too. However, the Red Wings certainly should be considering signing him to an extension, too.
