Arizona Coyotes: 2 Biggest Surprises Of The Season So Far
Every NHL team has now played 20 games this season, so we are starting to get a better understanding of what to expect from them moving forward. There have been certain players who have been big surprises thus far and it feels fair to shine a light on them. In this series, we will be looking at two from each team who certainly can be classified as that.
In this piece, we will be looking at the Arizona Coyotes. After the summer of selling they had, they are at the bottom of the NHL standings like everyone expected. However, these two players have exceeded expectations significantly thus far.
Shayne Gostisbehere: In a salary dump trade for the Philadelphia Flyers, the Arizona Coyotes acquired defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere along with a 2022 second-round pick and 2022 seventh-round pick. It's worked out immensely well for the Coyotes already, as Gostisbehere has played marvelously this season. In 24 games, he leads the Coyotes in points with 16. It appears that the change of scenery is exactly what he needed, as he is looking more like his old self. Could he have another 65-point season him? We'll see.
Scott Wedgewood: The Coyotes claimed Scott Wedgewood off waivers and he's been excellent since then. In nine games with Arizona, he has a 3-4-1 record, 2.75 GAA and .921 SV%. With this, he has done more than enough to stay with the NHL club and is heightening his value in the process. If he keeps this play up, he could net the Coyotes a decent return at the trade deadline.
