Ben Bishop Officially Announces His Retirement
A few days ago, Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill announced that Ben Bishop's career was over due to his knee injury. On Tuesday, the 35-year-old goaltender officially announced his retirement from the NHL during a press conference.
"And the fans, and last off, you guys, my teammates... You're really what makes this job so special."

What a career it was for Bishop. In 413 career games between the St. Louis Blues, Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning, Los Angeles Kings and Stars, he had a 222-128-36 record, 2.32 GAA and .921 SV%.
Yet, it was with Tampa Bay where he would take that next step and blossom into one of the top goalies in the league. From here, he would never look back, either. Over the course of his career, he was named a Vezina Trophy finalist on three different occasions and also participated in two All-Star games. With that, he led the Lightning to the Stanley Cup Final in 2015, where they fell to the Chicago Blackhawks. In 2020 with Stars, he sadly wasn't able to compete in the Stanley Cup Final, as his knee was injured again. It would have been amazing to see him go up against Tampa.
Bishop missed all of the 2020-21 season because of his knee trouble and was pushing very hard to make a comeback for this campaign. However, after one game with the Texas Stars, the veteran immediately aggravated his knee again and decided it was time to hang up the skates.
Overall, Bishop had an excellent career. He's the type of player who could surely look to stay within the game. Perhaps coaching is in future. Alas, enjoy your retirement, Ben!
