When looking back at the hit he threw on Dallas Stars forward Tanner Kero, it is quite easy to understand their decision. Kero did not have control of the puck and Connolly still leveled him while the former rightfully wasn't expecting it. It was an entirely unnecessary hit that warranted further punishment, even with Connolly's fairly clean history. On the play, Connolly received a five-minute major for interference and a game misconduct.
Following the game, the Stars thankfully announced that Kero was alert and responsive at the hospital. At this time, there is still no expected recovery timeline, but all hockey fans should be hoping for the 29-year-old center to have a speedy recovery.
