Paul Maurice Steps Down as Head Coach of the Winnipeg Jets

In a rather surprising turn of events, The Winnipeg Jets announced earlier today that Paul Maurice has stepped down as head coach of the team, effective immediately.  It is currently unknown as to the nature behind his decision, and we won't speculate until further information comes out, which of course we will report as soon as we find out on NHLTradeRumors.me.

The Jets are currently 13-10-5 on the season, and are 5th in the Central division - 5 points behind the Colorado Avalanche, and 9 points behind division leader Minnesota.  In the meantime, assistant coach Dave Lowry will assume to role of interim head coach, and will attempt to inspire a team that has been struggling as of late (4-5-1 in their last 10 games).

Maurice was in his 7th full season with the Jets organization, and is both accomplished and well-liked within the Winnipeg community.  During the 2019-2020 season while with the organization, Maurice became just the 7th coach in NHL history to earn 700 career victories, and he has led the Jets to playoff appearances in 5 of his 7 full seasons, including 4 straight dating back to 2017-18.

Whatever the circumstances are, we are wishing the best for both Paul Maurice and his family at this time and hope to see Maurice behind the bench again sooner rather than later.
