Colorado Avalanche: 2 Biggest Surprises Of The Season So Far

Every NHL team has now played 20 games this season, so we are starting to get a better understanding of what to expect from them moving forward. There have been certain players who have been big surprises thus far and it feels fair to shine a light on them. In this series, we will be looking at two from each team who certainly can be classified as that.

In this piece, we will be focusing on the Colorado Avalanche. These two players are important ones for the franchise, but they have been exceeding expectations significantly thus far. If they keep their hot starts up moving forward, they will each have career years.

Nazem Kadri: Nazem Kadri is expected to put up solid point totals each season, but he's off to an insanely hot start in this one. In just 21 games, he already has 10 goals and 31 points. Keep in mind, he had 32 points in 56 games last season and he's about to pass that. It's still only early December, too. This offensive explosion is coming at the perfect time for Kadri, too, as he's an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Devon Toews: Hockey fans know just how good Devon Toews is, but this season he's taken a bigger step offensively. Not many people would have predicted that the 27-year-old would be over a point-per-game player, but that's just what he is right now. In 13 games, he has four goals and 15 points. It will be very fun to see if he's able to keep this production up as the season continues.

Check out our last piece on the Montreal Canadiens. In our next installment, we will be discussing the Ottawa Senators.
