Justin Barron has been recalled from the Colorado Eagles.
Losing Toews is certainly a big blow, as he's been one of Colorado's best players all season. However, Colorado fans should also feel a lot of excitement when it comes to seeing Barron get this call-up. The 2020 first-round has been very impressive so far this season with the Eagles. In 14 games thus far, he has three goals and nine points. That's not bad production from a 20-year-old defenseman still getting used to professional hockey.
This will be Barron's first look at NHL regular season hockey, so naturally, it will be fascinating to keep an eye on him. When looking at the Avalanche's roster, he has a plethora of talented players to learn from, so he will be in good hands.
Barron just finished an excellent junior career in the QMJHL during the 2020-21 campaign. In his final season with the Halifax Mooseheads, he scored eight goals and recorded 37 points in 33 games.
Many scouts believe that Barron has top-four upside. Big, right-handed defenseman are treasured in this league, so the Avalanche are hoping that they have a long-term one in Barron.
