Detroit Red Wings Shut Down Until After Holiday Break
On Sunday, the Detroit Red Wings became the sixth NHL team to shut down until after the holiday break. This comes one day after their impressive 5-3 win over the New Jersey Devils.
Ultimately, this is a smart move, as Robby Fabbri, Sam Gagner, Alex Nedeljkovic, Michael Rasmussen, Carter Rowney, Givani Smith, Pius Suter, Joe Veleno and Filip Zadina are all in COVID-19 protocol. When remembering how contagious this virus is, that number is likely going to increase shortly. However, as another way to try to avoid spreading it more, all players and staff are now away from Detroit's training facilities.
#RedWings games will be postponed at least through the scheduled completion of the League’s Holiday Break in the schedule on Dec. 26. https://t.co/u1Zs09Q3CV

Besides Detroit, the Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators are all currently shut down, too. It wasn't too long ago where cases were fairly low, but now it's clear that they are now spreading like rapid fire.
With this news, the Red Wings have just one game to reschedule. They were set to play the Minnesota Wild on December 23rd.
The Red Wings are likely not going to be the last team who is shut down before the holiday break starts, so we'll be here to provide you with updates when they occur.
