Fabbri was viewed as a potential rental candidate for the deadline, as he was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent. He would have received a lot of interest around the league, but the Red Wings clearly wanted to keep him around rather than bring in more assets. It ultimately makes sense, as he's been an excellent fit for them from the very beginning.
In 28 games so far this season, Fabbri has eight goals and 14 points. Since being dealt to Detroit from the St. Louis Blues, he has scored 32 goals and recorded 63 total points in 110 contests. This is very impressive to see, as the 25-year-old dealt with serious injury trouble before joining Detroit. Now, he has not only gotten his career back on track, but also landed himself a very nice contract in the process.
Fabbri will continue to be a solid top-six option for the Red Wings, as he can play all three forward positions. That kind of versatility is something all teams love to have, so Detroit will surely appreciate the fact that they successfully locked him up. Perhaps his current stretch of play is what led the Red Wings to get this done so quickly, as he's been on fire over his last few games.
With 3 goals in 3 games, Robby Fabbri is your #RedWings @xfinity Player of the Week!
