Florida Panthers Claim Goaltender Off Waivers

The Florida Panthers have claimed goaltender Jonas Johansson off waivers from the Colorado Avalanche.

Earlier this season, the Panthers lost third-string goaltender Sam Montembeault through waivers to the Montreal Canadiens. Thus, it isn't too surprising to see them elect to claim Johansson, as he certainly fits that role well.

Johansson struggled a bit this season with the Avalanche, though, as he had a 3-2-1 record, 3.73 GAA and low .885 SV%. The 26-year-old was filling in for Pavel Francouz as the team's backup, but the latter now has returned from injury. Therefore, it was inevitable that Johansson would find himself on waivers.

The Panthers will be hoping that Johansson is able to bounce back nicely from here for them. Keep in mind, he played very well with the Avalanche after originally being traded last season. In eight games, he had a 5-1-1 record, 2.06 GAA and .913 SV%.

Nevertheless, there is no real risk in Florida taking a chance on Johansson. He is a decent depth option to have in net at the end of the day.
