Florida Panthers Make Big Decision With Young Goalie

The Florida Panthers have made a notable move, as they have loaned goaltender Spencer Knight to the Charlotte Checkers.

After starting off his NHL career with a 4-0-0 record last season, there was a lot of hype following Knight for this one. However, he has had a bit of struggles in his first full NHL campaign. In 13 games, he sports a 6-4-2 record, 3.42 GAA and .892 SV%. In his last start with Florida, he also allowed eight goals on 38 shots against the Ottawa Senators. That certainly played a role in the Panthers' decision.

With all of this, it makes sense for Knight to take a trip down to Charlotte. This should allow the 20-year-old to find his mojo, as his competition will be weaker in the AHL. Not too many goalies make the NHL so young, so Knight shouldn't be criticized too heavily for his struggles. He has plenty of time to get back on track and ultimately should.

After claiming Jonas Johansson on waivers from the Colorado Avalanche, the Panthers can now take their time with Knight. We should see the 2020 13th-overall pick back with the team sooner rather than later, though. Let's just wait and see how well he performs with Charlotte, first.
