Jets' Scheifele: "Nothing Better Than Beating the Leafs"
The Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Maple Leafs got sick of each other facing off 10 times last season in the North Division and in their first matchup of 2021-22 things got ugly. After the game Jets forward Mark Scheifele was quoted as saying there's nothing better than beating the Leafs.
Scheifele, who is from just an hour outside of Toronto was giving Jets defenseman Logan Stanley the celebratory helmet after the game and his speech has certainly caught the attention of Leafs Nation. The Jets forward awarded the helmet to Stanley after one of the best post-fight celebrations in hockey history.
The two teams match up again on March 31 in Toronto and expect to see some bad blood boil over for sure. From Pierre-Luc Dubois jumping Auston Matthews, to the knee-on-knee by Neil Poink, to Jason Spezza getting revenge on Pionk with a knee of his own, it was a crazy night in Winnipeg on Sunday. Even the head coaches were jawing at each other after Jets head coach Paul Maurice wouldn't play Dubois down the stretch, meanwhile Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe was double shifting Wayne Simmonds, Kyle Clifford and Nick Ritchie.
Here's Stanley's celebration and the presentation that's caught the eyes of Leafs Nation:
