Christian Wolanin (D) has been recalled from the @ontarioreign (AHL).
Alex Edler (D) has been placed on injured reserve.
After a hit by Minnesota Wild forward Brandon Duhaime in Saturday's game, Edler needed help to get off the ice and could not put weight down on his left leg. Head coach Todd McLellan also noted that Edler sustained a long-term injury.
There's no question that Edler's absence is a big one. Besides being a fantastic mentor in the locker room, he's also had an excellent campaign. In 26 games, he has a goal and 11 points, so he has been producing well from the back end. This was great to see, as he only had eight assists in 52 games last season with the Vancouver Canucks. However, the bounce back season will now have to be paused at a minimum.
Without Edler in their lineup, it will be harder for them to get back into the playoff picture. At this time, they sport a 12-10-4 record and are sixth in the Pacific Division. They are, however, only four points behind the third place Edmonton Oilers. Thus, the postseason isn't out of reach by any means, but this injury with Edler does sting.
Here's to hoping that Edler can recover quicker than expected and be back on the ice with the Kings very soon.
