Maple Leafs Lose Three More Players And Two Coaches

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that Jack Campbell, T.J. Brodie and Travis Dermott have all entered the NHL's COVID-19 protocol. With that, head coach Sheldon Keefe and assistant coach Spencer Carbery have joined them.

The Maple Leafs had each of their weekend games postponed and after news like this, it makes even more sense. In total, they now have seven players out and of course two coaches. At this juncture, the Leafs are set to play next on December 23rd against the St. Louis Blues. With their numbers starting to go up, it seems rather probable that the league could decide to shut them down until after the holiday break. They've already done so with five other teams.

Campbell has been excellent this season, as he sports a 15-5-2 record, 1.94 GAA and .937 SV%. With numbers like these, he is having himself a Vezina Trophy caliber type of campaign. Needless to say, he is priority number one when it comes to next offseason, as he is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent.

Once again, Brodie has been a reliable part of Toronto's blue line this season. In 30 games, he has scored a goal and recorded seven points. With that, he sports a respectable plus-9 rating, so he certainly has been doing his job in his own end. Thus, he's another notable loss if he's kept out of action for longer than the holiday break.

Dermott is another player who the Leafs would rather have in the lineup than out. In 19 contests this season, the 24-year-old defenseman has a goal and an assist. Although he hasn't been dominating the scoresheet, he's been a nice piece of the Leafs' bottom pair.

Alas, here's to hoping these five all feel better very soon.
