Matt Murray Confused Why He's to Blame for Senators Struggles

Veteran goaltender Matt Murray knows he needs to be better, he's just not sure why he's become the scapegoat for the Ottawa Senators struggles this season. Murray recently met with the media about his demotion and certainly didn't hold back his feelings on the move.

While he's well aware his 0-5-0 record with a 3.26 GAA and a .890 save % aren't good enough and not meeting his expectations, Murray is left confused on why everyone is pointing the finger at him. Here's what the two-time Stanley Cup champion had to say from Belleville of the American Hockey League:

I do, yeah. I also think that's part of what you sign up for as a goalie. I think that comes with the territory. I don't think I've been bad, but I haven't been good enough to win. They said it was a management decision. That's about all I got. Confusion. Honestly, it was the main one. A lot of confusion, but at the end of the day, I thought about what I wanted to get out of (an AHL stint). I'm here to make the most of it and keep my eye on the prize and eventually obviously get back up there as soon as possible

After signing a mega-contract with the Senators, Murray has played in 33 games for Ottawa, and has recorded a 3.35 GAA and a .892 save %. It's obvious he needs to get better but apparently he doesn't feel like that should be down in the AHL.

The Senators are the worst team in the NHL, sitting with a 4-14-1 record. Look for the team to consider moving Murray and be open to retaining some of his $6.25 million contract for the next two and a half seasons.
