Montreal Canadiens Fan Throws Jersey on the Ice
In a scene that you only see when a team hits rock bottom, the Montreal Canadiens lost to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday and Habs fans ended up throwing jerseys on the ice in sheer disappointment.
It's been a rough couple of months to be a fan of the Canadiens as they have gone from Stanley Cup Final to the bottom barrel of the league. There's been major changes to the senior leadership team of the organization and the players have now been put on notice that some changes are expected on the ice. There's a few veterans including Jeff Petry and Brendan Gallagher who have been getting shopped for trades.
As for the fans, the jersey toss is just the beginning and next you will start to see attendance decline. Canadiens forward Nick Suzuki is new to this type of behavior from a fan base and had this to say after the game:
Yeah, I saw it (the jersey). It's not a good feeling for the players. It's tough. It's tough to get booed. But the fans want to see wins, and they're used to productive teams, and we're not doing that right now. I can definitely see why they're getting angry.
The Canadiens now move to 6-17-2 on the season and lost both Josh Anderson and Petry to injury after the game. It's trying times to be a Habs fan, indeed, but let's keep all our clothes on at the game folks.
