Montreal Canadiens Terminate Forward's Contract

The Montreal Canadiens and forward Arsen Khisamutdinov have mutually agreed to terminate his contract.
Khisamutdinov was selected by the Canadiens with the 170th pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He made his debut in North America last season as a member of the Laval Rocket. In 15 games, he had just one assist. He did not make Laval's roster this season, however. Instead, he played for the Trois-Rivieres Lions of the ECHL. In 10 games with them, he had three goals and five points.

This contract termination opens the door for Khisamutdinov to head back home to Russia. The 23-year-old winger has 40 KHL games under his belt with the Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, where recorded three goals and eight points. At the MHL and VHL levels over his last three seasons there, however, he has been over a point-per-game player. Perhaps this kind of offense will translate over more to the KHL from here.

This benefits the Canadiens, too. With Khisamutdinov's contract off the books, they now have the ability to sign another player of their choosing. It's never a bad thing to open up a roster spot.

Nonetheless, good luck to Arsen from here!
