It was announced Monday morning that Pionk would have a hearing. When watching the play over again, it is apparent that he could have avoided making contact with Sandin. However, the 26-year-old led with his knee and unfortunately injured Sandin.
Pionk's play wasn't even the biggest controversy of the night, either. Jason Spezza would later knee Pionk in the head in an act of retaliation. Due to this, he has an in-person hearing on Tuesday, which means the veteran center is eligible receive more than a five-game suspension. We will have to wait and see what happens with him, but for now, Pionk is the only player suspended from this tilt.
