New Jersey Devils And St. Louis Blues Strike A Deal
One week ago, the St. Louis Blues signed goaltender Jon Gillies to a one-year, two-way contract. Now, his time with St. Louis is already over, as they have traded the 27-year-old goaltender to the New Jersey Devils for future considerations.

Due to both Jordan Binnington and Ville Husso being out for the Blues, Gillies was able to appear in his first NHL game since the 2017-18 season. In it, he didn't look out of place at all, as he saved 36 out of 39 shots in an overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks. Now with New Jersey, he will be aiming to get into some more NHL starts.
Jonathan Bernier is currently on IR and could be out long-term because of it. Due to this news, the Devils called up Akira Schmid from the Utica Comets. Gillies now gives them another option and they could elect to send the 21-year-old Schmid back to Utica.
This season is becoming even more eventful for Gillies, as he is due to suit up for his fifth hockey team already - whether it be with the NHL club or the Comets. Besides appearing for the Blues, he also played five total games between the Maine Mariners of the ECHL and the Providence Bruins and Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL. That doesn't even include the fact that he originally signed a PTO with the New York Islanders, too.
Nevertheless, Gillies is off to another new adventure. Here's to hoping we get to see him play with the Devils.
